Seven Gems of Marketing : A Treasure for every Marketer


Life teaches you something with each passing day and the learning is a constant one and a part of life. Evolution on both personal or professional fronts are ongoing and we stumble upon such gems with each passing day.

Such learnings turn to be true treasures as they help an individual get rich by traits personally / professional. Here’s a list of SEVEN jewels in my crown as a part of learning imbibed in my professional life.

Each illustrated jewel if undertaken by a marketer will ensure a radical makeover in the working output. These according to me are amongst the most considerations.

  1. Positioning is Key : It all starts with perception, what you feel, what you think is an outlay of how the product / services are communicated and projected to people at large. It is a precursor to how you want your business to be projected and whom would you want to take notice. Therefore SHOWCASE IT RIGHT.

2. Building-up an audience that engages helps, as you cannot buy engagement : All that a business / brand focuses is to have a target audience who are loyal and part of the brand community. It is imperative for businesses to continue communication with the tribe instead of attempting to connect with all and spreading thin. The real response comes from those who connect and communicate with the brands and for those whom brand means something. The feedback and connect is real and cannot have any value attached to it.

3. Growth is all about experimenting with different tactics and doubling on what’s effectively working: A constant evolution is a part of the growth journey and it needs multiple actionable for a constant exploration of several tactical workings and growth. While attempting a multi dimensional workings, a constant determination of the approach reaping the desired outcome is intrinsic. This approach shall help assist picking actionable working and sieving all that’s not working saving time & monies.

4. Organic search is surely the best traffic: An inducement to drive home some attention needs time / money / effort with no assurance on repeat. Thus it becomes the most important requisite for brands to continue conversing with the repeat consumer and continue to give them all the attention. It is much like the Pareto’s rule!

5. Talk to your customers : The best you can do to your customer is to talk to them for a better understanding about your offering and what needs to be done. A better knowhow on What, How, When, Who, Why can all be sorted by spending time with your customers. Many a times a marketer is not able to see through the filters / lens that he/she wears while performing a task therefore a feedback from the customer many a times helps clear out the ambiguity on deliverables.

6. To drive 100X outcome you may need to take a 10X risk : To try newer outcomes, one must ensure a newer route which may or many not work which is like taking risk with approach to hit the targeted outcomes. Risk is part of work culture.

7. Marketing is an ongoing effort and not a task : This by far is the most important rule which needs consistency, ongoing and a regularised effort. It is important for a marketer to continue with their effort each day for a constant evolution.

The above golden rules, are worth a treasure.
